  • Summary of discussion of case study components
  • Identification of a specific disability, adverse effect and educational needs
  • Determination of eligibility for special education and related services

What is An IEP?

An Individualized Education program (IEP) is a written agreement between a student's parents and the school with regard to the student needs and what will be done to address those needs. In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), an IEP'' must be developed by an educational team for the individual student and include the following:

  • Student's present levels of academic performance
  • Annual goals for the student
  • Short term instructional objectives related to the annual goals
  • Special Education and related services that will be provided and the extent to which the student will participate in regular education programs
  • Plans for starting the services and the anticipated duration of services
  • Plans for evaluating, at least annually; whether the goals and objectives are being achieved
  • Transition planning for older students, and
  • Input from parents
