Sycamore High School moved up from 155th in the state in 2008 to 77th in the state in 2009. SHS moved up 78 spots due largely to an increased reading score on the PSAE .

Welcome to the Sycamore High School website. Sycamore High School aspires to “Empower all Students to Succeed in their World.” Sycamore High School offers a wide variety of challenging, enjoyable and successful curricular opportunities, athletic programs, performing arts & musical programs with various clubs and activities.
It is our belief that high school should be “The Experience of a Lifetime.” In many cases the high school experience sets the stage for successes later in life and provides a lifetime of positive memories for our students. We encourage your child to become involved and engaged outside of the classroom. It will enhance their high school experience.
Sycamore High School is proud of our continual goal of providing an excellent education for our students. Sixty-five percent of our faculty have obtained Masters Degrees or higher. You will find our instructors available to assist your child in achieving their goals. We have a dynamic, hardworking faculty who are involved in education to benefit your child.
Our students are our focus at Sycamore High School. Sycamore High School is proud of the 42 Illinois State Scholars from last year’s senior class. SHS had the highest average ACT score in DeKalb County for schools with an enrollment over 600 (2007 school report card). Over 75% of our students go on to some type of secondary education.
SHS is proud of its commitment to technology with over 440 computers in the high school available to help students and staff. We are constantly striving to stay on the cutting edge of technology providing a more efficient building, increased communication, and most importantly, preparing our students for the fast-paced world they will face.
We have excellent facilities including a completely remodeled Performing Arts Center, 56, 000 square foot field house, 5,000 square foot weight room and a new classroom addition. All completed in the last nine years.
New and exciting changes this year include:
- The SHS Newsletter will be going 100% electronic. We will no longer be mailing newsletters home. They will be available online and will contain color photos, video clips and will be available to you anywhere, anytime.
- The parent portal will eliminate the need to mail home progress and quarter grades. Your child’s grades will be available online 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- First semester finals will be held before the holiday break this year. Please see the link on the website explaining this process.
- We are beginning a program called “Learning Readiness Physical Education” to further enhance the education process for our students.
- We are opening the Spartan Store, a school store for basic supplies. Our goal is to have it open before and after school and during lunches.
- We will be moving all standardized testing to a singular date in the spring. This means the Explore, PLAN and PSAE test date will all be given on the same date allowing for fewer disruptions during the school year.
