The students only have a few weeks left to submit their Young Author story.  This is a yearly contest where we encourage our students to become authors of their own stories.  The students should write a story and illustrate their book.  Each student is encouraged to complete a book and turn it in to their classroom teacher by Friday, January 22. The top three stories from each class will be selected as classroom finalists.  A building committee will then select the top two finalists per grade level as building finalists.  Finally, a district committee will judge the stories and select the district winners.

         Judging Criteria

    •        Originality

    •         Presentation

    •         Use of story elements

    •         Illustrations

We will announce the winners of our classroom and building finalists over the PA system and present them with certificates.  All Young Authors participants will receive a ribbon at our end of the year assembly. The district winners will receive an award at a spring Board of Education Meeting.

We are about to begin our second round of building benchmark assessments.  Please see the dates below for each assessment.  We use this data to adjust programming at the building level and within each classroom.

-AIMSweb Reading (1-5)- Thursday, January 21

-Illinois Snapshot of Early Literacy (ISEL for K)- January 11-15

-Measures of Academic Progress (MAP for K-5)- January 11-22

Mark your calendar for the North Grove Open House –Night of Giving (Tuesday, February 2).  Each classroom will have an activity including all specials.  We will have community readers in the library and we will once again be donating to local agencies that support our community.  This was a very successful event last year and we hope everyone can attend this year!

    Thank you,

    Mr. Janisch
