Let me begin by wishing all of you a happy New Year. I hope that 2015 can be a wonderful year for all of our families! The Young Author program is back for another year of fun and creativity. This is a yearly contest where we encourage our students to become authors of their own stories. The students should write a story with illustrations. Each student is encouraged to complete a book and turn it in to their classroom teacher by Wednesday, January 21. Each teacher will select two books that will be entered into a school wide grade level competition. A building committee then selects two books per grade level that will be submitted to the district office. The finalists from each building are evaluated by retired teachers and community members. They will judge the stories based on originality, presentation, use of story elements and illustration. The district winners will be recognized by the Sycamore School District Board of Education. This is a great opportunity for students to really show what they have learned about writing in the classroom. At North Grove grade level winners will be announced over the PA and presented with a certificate. All Young Author participants will receive a ribbon at our end of the year assembly and have an opportunity to read their story at our spring book fair! As we return from winter break our second round of building assessments will begin. Please see the dates below for each assessment. We use this data to adjust programming at the building level and within the classroom.
