Class placement is an internal planning process that begins in the spring. Class lists and student placements are developed using the following criteria:
*Classroom progress and performance
*Use of assessments, observations and artifacts
*Instructional heterogeneous groupings
*Gender equity
*Class size
*Consideration of supported education students and related services
Teachers provide recommendations for preliminary class lists during the spring. Classes are not formulated until summer due to changes that occur in enrollment and teaching staff.
If a parent feels the need to make a particular request, inquiry or comment regarding class placement, there is a process:
*Complete the district placement form
*Review class placement request guidelines
*Describe the educational needs of your child
*All requests must be completed by Thursday, May 1st
*Mrs. Spiewak will schedule appointments with parents as necessary
North School has a highly qualified skilled teaching staff. We are fortunate to have a staff with varying teaching styles, all with one common goal - educating your child. Parents are cautioned not to request placement or non-placement based on others' observations or discussions. An experience that one student and parent may have had with a teacher may be totally different from what another student and parent may have with the same teacher.
All parent requests are considered but do not ensure placement. I feel strongly that parents have a right to provide information in the placement process and their input is encouraged, but the principal and school staff have the ultimate responsibility for making all placement decisions.
