Choir
is for any fourth or fifth grade student willing to make the commitment.
Throughout the year, the choir has many great opportunities to perform, so I
hope you will encourage your child to participate. They may join at any time
throughout the year; however, the best time would be right after the choir
has finished a performance. That way, they will be able to learn the new
music with the rest of the choir, instead of trying to catch up.
Rehearsals are Tuesday mornings at 7:45 for Southeast students and Thursday
mornings at 7:45 for West students. Parents are responsible for providing
transportation for your child (whether you bring them or they walk). In the
past, many parents found ways to carpool or have students walk together, so
there are options if you can't personally bring your child each week. As this
is a before school activity, it is considered extra-curricular and your child
must turn in a permission slip before they may participate (see below). In
addition, students need to attend all choir rehearsals unless excused by a
parent or because of crossing guard. Any student not showing commitment to
the choir may be asked to leave.
We have two performances coming up. Our first performance of the year is the
choir festival with all five elementary choirs on October 22nd at the high
school. Our second performance is at
Pumpkin Fest on October 24th. Southeast, South Prairie, and West choir will
be singing together in the field house at 9:30 a.m. Students are asked to be
there by 9:00 a.m..
I
hope you consider having your child join the choir. If you have any
questions, I can be reached at Southeast at 899-8219, at West at 899-8199, or
by email at lmiller@syc427.org. Thank you for supporting music at Southeast
and West
