Hello! My name is Lisa Miller and this is my third year as the music teacher at Southeast and West school. This is such a wonderful community to have become a part of and I am very happy to be here. I graduated from North Central College with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education in June 2006. Before coming to Sycamore, I spent one year as a K-5 general music teacher in District 204 in Naperville. I grew up in Sandwich, Illinois and then moved to Dekalb a couple years ago. In my spare time, I enjoy cheering on the Chicago Cubs, reading, and spending time outside. Music is an exciting class for many students. Students come to music once a week for forty minutes. During that time, students engage in many activities including singing, playing instruments, composing, listening, moving, dancing, and playing singing games. Under the curriculum link, you will find a specific curriculum for each grade level. Hopefully, for many students music class will serve as a springboard for a lifelong enjoyment of music.
I also wanted to tell you a little about the Sycamore Music Boosters. The Sycamore Music Boosters are the families of students enrolled in music education classes in Sycamore Schools. There are no membership forms or dues. There are two main fund-raising events which are the annual Autumn Craft and Treasures Market and the new fundraiser “A Note to Remember” which we just started last year. The funds raised through this activity supports the music program and it's participants. The Sycamore Music Program serves as a source of identification and pride for the Sycamore community of alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends.
