Welcome!
Welcome to Southeast Elementary. Southeast Elementary is located in the southeastern section of Sycamore, Illinois. An enrollment of 453 students and 50 staff all make up a community of learners that contribute to an atmosphere of focused academia and a positive experience for all learners. Southeast prides itself on a strong community base that involves students, parents and staff working together to create a common goal: “Empowering All Learners to Succeed in Their World”.

Southeast is fortunate to have a staff well schooled in best practices for students. Staff members pride themselves on their ability to research and seek out advice to find methods of instruction that will intrigue and build a strong base for learners. Instruction is delivered in various modes at Southeast. We offer a full day Kindergarten program and support single graded classrooms at both the primary and intermediate levels. Students receive music, art, physical education, technology courses, and library instruction as a part of their curriculum. Extra curricular events such as band, choir, and orchestra are also supported at the elementary level. This wide variety of instructional methods helps to support our philosophy of differentiation to meet the needs of the individual learner.

Southeast has a very active parent base. Parents are seen in many roles. Their involvement in PTO coordinated activities; classroom activities, as well as, supporting staff with strong guidance at home, are all very much appreciated. Southeast PTO coordinates events and sponsors projects that relate to and support student learning. A few of these events are: Red Ribbon Week, Volunteer coordination, Book Fairs, morning book discussion, field trip support, Art and Music awareness, spirit wear coordination, scholarship funding, Fun Fair, teacher grant support, landscaping beautification and library enhancements are only a partial list. Every parent at Southeast is a member of the PTO. Meetings are open to all and we encourage anyone to attend to give input. Parents make our school a successful environment where students see the importance of education from all adults around them.

The 2009-2010 year theme is, “Empowering all learners to succeed in their world”. We believe students can become more successful if they believe and respect their own talents, as well as, those of others. Therefore this year we will be instilling in students the theme of understanding the core values and putting them in action as good citizens. I look forward to a year filled with experiences and learning for the Southeast community and myself.
