Multi-Tiered Systems of Support

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) is a comprehensive framework designed to improve outcomes for ALL learners.
 
This objective is accomplished by systematically and proactively identifying which students need additional academic or behavioral support, planning how to provide that support, and monitoring students' progress or response to intervention. The process of determining what type and level of support a student needs within MTSS is driven by the following questions:
 
  • What is it we want students to know and be able to do?
  • How will we know when each student has achieved the identified goal(s)?
  • How will we respond when students do not achieve the identified goal(s)?
  • How will we extend and enrich learning for those students who have met or exceeded the goal(s)?

Components of MTSS

Acceleration and Enrichment

Students who meet or exceed academic or behavioral goals sometimes require an additional challenge.
 
Teachers work with elementary students in small groups to ensure that each student is given the opportunity to learn and grow at their level. In 3rd through 5th grades, students who require an additional challenge in math can participate in the Walk to Learn program. In this program, students walk up to the next grade level for their math instruction each day.
 
Middle School students requiring an additional challenge have the opportunity to participate in accelerated English & Language Arts or Math classes.
 
High School students have the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Credit classes. In addition to a challenge, these classes also provide students with college credit.
 
 

Intervention and Support

Response to Intervention (RTI) is an early intervention system that provides support to students who struggle academically or behaviorally. By providing a strong core curriculum in addition to research-based interventions to students who need them, the goal of success for all students can more readily be attained.
