Superintendent
The superintendent is the District’s executive officer and is responsible for the administration and management of the district schools in accordance with Board of Education policies, directives, and state and federal law.
Superintendent Mr. Steve Wilder began his tenure in Sycamore on July 1, 2020. Raised in Bloomington, Illinois, he attended public schools in Bloomington School District 87 prior to attending and graduating from Bloomington Central Catholic High School. He received his B.A. in Chemistry from Arizona State University, then attended Illinois State University where he received his teaching certificate, M.A., and Ed.S in Educational Administration & Foundations. He is a licensed teacher with endorsements in chemistry, general science, social studies, language arts, general administration, and the superintendency.
The State of the District is an annual event at which Superintendent Steve Wilder delivers an update to our community.
Mr. Wilder began his career as an educator as an eighth grade science teacher at Olympia Middle School in Stanford, Illinois in 1997. He served in that capacity until he became the Principal there in 2002. His career as an administrator continued as the Assistant Principal at University High School in Normal, Illinois in 2006. During that time, he completed his superintendent’s endorsement, which culminated in him being named the Superintendent in Knoxville CUSD 202 in 2010. He served there for ten years during which time Knoxville realigned their entire district curriculum, implemented a districtwide 1:1 technology program, constructed a new high school, and updated several other district facilities.
Working in environments that put students first academically, socially, and emotionally throughout his career has had an impact on Mr. Wilder. He feels that has shaped his vision and philosophy about education both as a teacher and as an educational leader. He has also been fortunate to have mentors and colleagues who taught him the importance of collaboration, teamwork, and “thinking outside of the box.” His professional interests include education leadership, instructional technology, and being part of efforts to help students develop skills that will help them chase their dreams.
Mr. Wilder resides in Sycamore with his wife, Michelle, and their children. In his personal time, he enjoys spending time with his family, attending church, health and wellness, and working in the yard.
