Dear Sycamore Community School District 427 community,

Thank you for taking the time to review After the Board, a brief recap of each month’s regular Board of Education meeting, designed to keep our community informed. Below are the major highlights from the Board of Education meeting held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

Student and Staff Recognition Spotlight
The Board recognized:

  • Samanta Minchala -  Sycamore High School Student
    Nominated by Claribel Robles and Joseph McCormick, Samanta Minchala was recognized for her resilience, determination, and academic growth. Arriving in Sycamore as a freshman with limited English, she demonstrated courage while navigating a new educational environment. Over the past three years, Samanta has continued to grow in confidence and skill, never allowing language to be a barrier to her success. Now a junior, she has developed strong communication skills and excels in a rigorous academic program. Her dedication and persistence reflect the values of our community, and her journey serves as an inspiring example of resilience and intellectual curiosity for all students.

  • Kevin Boltz - Teacher, Sycamore Middle School
    Kevin Boltz was recognized for being named a 2026 Meta Data Center Community Action Grants recipient. Through this competitive program, Meta supports initiatives that strengthen communities and expand opportunities in STEAM education across DeKalb County. Mr. Boltz will use this grant to modernize learning spaces at Sycamore Middle School by enhancing tools, equipment, and technology. His work continues to create meaningful, hands-on, career-connected learning experiences that prepare students for future success.

Action Items

Consideration for Board Approval 

Consideration to Approve the Sycamore Education Association Proposed Contract

The Board approved the Sycamore Education Association contract through FY28. This agreement reflects strong collaboration and supports the district’s continued focus on attracting and retaining high-quality staff.

 

Old Business

Policy Revisions -  Second Reading
The Board approved revisions to several policies, ensuring alignment with current legal requirements and district practices.

Internal Control AUP
The Board reviewed the Lauterbach & Amen internal control AUP. Action was tabled to allow for additional refinement and clarification.

Southeast Elementary Roof Bid
The Board approved the Southeast Elementary roof project, supported in part by a state facilities maintenance grant. 

New Business
FY27 Chromebook Purchase
The Board approved the annual Chromebook replacement cycle to ensure students and staff have access to updated and reliable technology.

Wireless Access Point Upgrade
The Board approved a districtwide wireless infrastructure upgrade, with approximately 50% of the cost reimbursed through E-Rate funding.

Board Meeting Schedule
The Board approved an amended 2026–2027 meeting schedule.

Board Member Conference Discussion
The Board discussed potential participation in the COSSBA Federal Advocacy Conference. No formal action was taken at this time.
