Chauncey Carrick Named Recipient of Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award

The National Wrestling Hall of Fame and their Illinois Chapter are pleased to announce Chauncey Carrick is receiving the ‘Lifetime Service to Wrestling’ Award.  

Mr. Carrick has served the sport of wrestling at the local, state, and national levels. His love for wrestling started in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, where he was a three-year Varsity letter winner.  

Mr. Carrick’s coaching career started while he was a student at Western Illinois University. Mr. Carrick coached for two years at Macomb High School, serving as Head Coach in the second season. After Macomb, Mr. Carrick started coaching at Sycamore High School, four years as an assistant and 13 years as the Head Coach. His record at Sycamore High School was 180-95, with seven State Place winners and 29 State Qualifiers. In 2010, the Spartans earned the school’s first trip to the State Dual tournament under Coach Carrick. After the 2010 season, the IWCOA named Mr. Carrick the Class 2A Coach of the Year. In July of 2010, Mr. Carrick became Sycamore High School’s Athletic Director.

Mr. Carrick has also served on the Board of Directors for the IKWF/ILUSAW since 1999. During this time, the Illinois National Team has taken the nation by storm. They have won 88 Team National Championships in Freestyle and Greco-Roman. Team Illinois has also had 162 individual National Champions and 944 All-Americans. In 2016, Mr. Carrick received the Ron Silverstein Award, which is the highest honor given by the IKWF/ILUSAW.  

Mr. Carrick has also run numerous tournaments throughout the country. Currently, he is in charge of bracketing for the IKWF State Tournament, the IHSA Individual State Tournament, the Dvorak at Harlem High School, the Sycamore Invitational, plus a few others. He has also run the bracketing at the Mid-American Conference, multiple NCAA Division III regionals, and the Big Ten Conference.

In 2019 Mr. Carrick was inducted into the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Hall of Fame.

The National Wrestling Hall of Fame is located in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Annually, the NWHOF recognizes individuals with the following honors: Distinguished Members, Outstanding American, Medal of Courage, Order of Merit, and Meritorious Official. Since 1994 the NWHOF has asked their State Chapters to recognize the following honors: Lifetime Service to Wrestling, Outstanding American, and the Medal of Courage. The Illinois Chapter ceremony will take place on Sunday, October 18, 2026,  in Alsip, Illinois.
