This summer, our district transitioned to a new unified districtwide communication platform called ParentSquare ahead of the upcoming 2023-24 school year. This platform is designed to inform parents and guardians and encourage a greater connection with Sycamore Community School District 427. In anticipation of the new school year, we wanted to share some tips and tricks to get started and become more familiar with using your ParentSquare account.
Signing Up for a ParentSquare Account
All Sycamore School District 427 families should have received an invitation email or text encouraging them to join ParentSquare at the end of the 2022-2023 school year, including a link to activate your account. If you are a new family in our district or if you have not created an account, you can use your email or phone number to set up your account without an invitation.
- Visit www.parentsquare.com/signin, or download the ParentSquare app to your mobile device and follow the prompts to sign up for an account.
- You can use your email, phone number, or Google single sign-on (SSO) for your account. Your email/phone number must match your contact details on file with the district for your account to work properly.
- If you have any issues, please reach out to us at communications@syc427.org. We’re here to help.
Download the ParentSquare App
ParentSquare’s mobile app is an excellent way to receive convenient notifications and stay connected to your student’s school, as well as provide easy access to direct messaging with your student’s teachers.

Changing Your Notification Preferences
ParentSquare offers multiple options for communication and allows you to choose how you would like to be notified.
- Instant, which will deliver general messages and announcements to you the moment they are sent.
- Digest, which will send a single message in the evening (6:00 PM) containing all the general messages and announcements sent by your child’s school and the district throughout the school day.
- Off, which will not deliver any notifications of new general messages and announcements.
We recommend choosing either Instant or Digest as your notification preference to stay in touch. If you do not manually adjust your Notification Preferences, users will receive notifications in the form of an email digest each night at 6:00 PM.
To change your settings via web browser:
- From the homepage, click on your name in the top-right corner and select “My Account.”
- Select “Notification Settings” on the left side of the screen.
- Choose your preferred notification settings for General Announcements & Messages (Off, Instant, or Digest) and School Alerts (On or Off).
To change your settings via the mobile app:
- From Home, tap the Menu (triple bars) on the top left.
- Select Account.
- Select Notifications.
- Use the toggles to turn on or off notifications by email, text, and app. You can select Instant or Digest for each mode. You can also use the toggle to set School Alerts (On or Off).
We highly recommend leaving School Alerts “On.” These alerts include urgent communications from the district about bus delays, cancelations, student notices, and more. Users are not able to turn “off” Urgent Alerts and Notices. These critical announcements will be sent as a text, call and email to all staff, parents, and emergency contacts by default.
Changing Your Language Preferences
ParentSquare has the powerful feature of two-way translation, allowing users to communicate in their native language when sending messages.
To update your language preferences via web browser:
- From the homepage, click your name at the top-right and select “My Account.”
- On the left, select “Language Settings.”
- Click the drop-down menu, select your preferred language, and click “Save.”
To update your language preferences via the mobile app:
- From Home, tap the Menu (triple bars) on the top-left, then select “Account.”
- Select Preferences.
- Select Language.
- Scroll through the list and tap on your preferred language.
