SHS Alum Cora Early Earns Perfect Score on Advanced Placement Exam for Art

Sycamore Community School District 427 congratulates Sycamore High School (SHS) alum Cora Early for earning a perfect score on a college-level Advanced Placement® (AP®) Exam in spring 2022. 
 
Cora not only received a top score of 5, but was also one of only 197 students in the world to earn every point possible on the AP 2-D Art and Design Exam, receiving the maximum score on each portion of the exam. 
 
“We applaud Cora for her effort in class and on the exam, and we applaud our art department staff for their dedication to our students,” said SHS Principal Tim Carlson. 
 
SHS Art Department staff empower students to explore and develop their artistic interests by

providing instruction and resources. But SHS Art Teacher and Art Department Chair, Dawn Cavanaugh, is quick to point out that it is up to each student to take advantage of these resources. 
 
“Cora did what it took, worked very hard to develop her talent, and earned that score because

of her own efforts,” said Cavanaugh. 
 
AP courses involve college-level work, and SHS offers AP courses in several departments. If students choose to take the AP Exam associated with the course, colleges and universities around the world receive AP scores for college credit, advanced placement, and/or consideration in the admission process.
