Student Board Member: 2026-27 School Year

Sycamore Community School District 427 is excited to announce that applications are now open for the 2026-2027 Student Board Member.

This unique leadership opportunity gives two Sycamore High School students (one Junior representative and one Senior representative) the chance to represent the student voice at Board of Education meetings, gain firsthand experience in educational leadership and governance, and serve as a liaison between students and district leaders.

The Student Board Member will:

• Attend regular Board of Education meetings and participate in discussions.
• Share student perspectives on topics impacting our schools.
• Build leadership, communication, and civic engagement skills.
• Collaborate with district administrators and Board members throughout the school year.

Current Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to apply. The Junior representative will serve a 2-year term, and the Senior representative will serve for a 1-year term. Applicants should demonstrate leadership, responsibility, a commitment to serving others, and a genuine interest in representing the voices of their peers.

Application Deadline: Monday, August 31, 2026, at 4:00 PM

Following the application deadline, selected candidates will participate in interviews with school and district leaders before a final interview with members of the Board of Education. The selected Student Board Member will be officially seated at the September 28, 2026, Board of Education meeting.

In addition to the application, students will be required to provide one letter of recommendation. The letter can be submitted electronically through the application, or a physical copy can be turned in at the main office at Sycamore High School.
