Sycamore Community School District 427 Announces New Director of Student Services
Meg Thurman Announcement
Sycamore Community School District 427 is pleased to announce Mrs. Meg Thurman as the new Director of Student Services. Thurman will replace Lynn Reilley, who will retire at the end of this contract year. Thurman will begin these responsibilities on July 1, 2023.

Thurman has been a public school educator for 22 years, with the last 15 years in school administration. She is currently the Executive Director of Student Support Services for Springfield Public Schools. In addition to her years as a director, she has also served as a building principal, and school psychologist from small rural to large urban communities. She graduated from Western Illinois University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Specialist degree in School Psychology. Thurman is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP). She also holds ISBE certification in Educational Leadership and Director of Special Education approval. She is a founding member of the ISBE Positive Pathways committee and is an executive board member of the ISBE Special Education Leadership Academy advisory council.

“The exceptional educational system is a testament to the dedicated leaders, teachers, services providers, and community present in the Sycamore Community School District. I am eager to work with them building upon the momentum that has been started here,” said Thurman. “As Director of Student Services, I look forward to supporting our diverse learners and meeting their goals through exceptional services and education. I will work to create a community that embraces the strength in our differences and to enhance opportunities to empower all abilities.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Thurman to Sycamore,” said Mr. Steve Wilder, Superintendent of Sycamore Community School District 427. “She brings a wealth of experience from multiple districts of different sizes and different communities. That diversity will benefit our school district and community as we continue to move Sycamore forward. In addition, she is a collaborative person who is easy to talk with and eager to become part of our community.”

Thurman is excited to join the district and the Sycamore community. She and her husband Lance have 4 children, 3 older, and an 8-year-old son Knox, who will be entering 3rd grade in the fall. “It was important to find an excellent educational system and a well-rounded community to raise my son and contribute professionally – Sycamore has it all,” said Thurman. She also enjoys watching football, boating, biking, and spending time with her family. She participates in various civic organizations and is actively involved with the Special Olympics and the Elks Organization.

Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Meg Thurman as the new Director of Student Services.
