Sycamore Community School District 427 Announces New OSCAR Director

Sycamore Community School District 427 is pleased to announce Katie Newhouse as the new Director of Out of School Care (OSCAR). Newhouse will assume her responsibilities on January 2, 2024.

Newhouse has been an educator for 11 years. She is transitioning over to CUSD 427 from Rockford Public School District 205 where she was a school administrator for the past seven years. She most recently served as the Health Academy Principal of Guilford High School.

“I am ecstatic to be joining an innovative leadership team that has the best interests of our students and families at the forefront of every decision made. I believe that empowering our children to take ownership of their learning will guide them to the greatest success. Every. Single. Student. Matters. I know that my administrative expertise will allow me to jump right into my role,” said Katie Newhouse. “Sycamore School District demonstrates what it means to be a community, inside and outside the classroom, and the remarkable hard-working staff continues to inspire. It is incredibly special that I have the opportunity to serve the school community in which I live.”

Newhouse also previously worked as a teacher for four years in Plainfield and Aurora. She holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education, K-12 with a Minor in Secondary Education with an additional full Secondary Health Endorsement from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.

"We are very excited to welcome Mrs. Newhouse to Sycamore,” said Superintendent, Mr. Steve Wilder. “Mid-year changes can be difficult, especially with leadership positions. But, we were fortunate that our district and this position attracted someone with the experience and leadership that Mrs. Newhouse brings. We are confident that she will be a quick study of our OSCAR program, which is unique to school districts. In addition, we believe that her experience will allow her to make suggestions about how this already great program can continue to grow."

Mrs. Newhouse and her husband, Conrad, have lived in Sycamore for five years. They have two daughters, Peyton (7) and Lulu (2). Peyton is in 2nd grade at North Grove Elementary. Newhouse is also known as “Coach Katie” by some of our Sycamore families since she started teaching swim lessons out of her home last summer. She was a competitive swimmer her entire life and has dedicated years to coaching kids of all ages. When Katie is not in school or the pool, she is diving into another storyline as she is an avid reader.

Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Newhouse as the new OSCAR Director.
