Sycamore Community School District 427 Announces New Principal of Sycamore High School
Mr. Swanson was selected from a talented pool of candidates after interviews with SHS staff, parents, and district administrators. After careful consideration of each candidate’s credentials and the needs of the Sycamore community, he was specifically chosen to fulfill this role.
He will replace Tim Carlson, who will be retiring after holding various positions in the district for 31 consecutive years including 15 years as principal. Swanson will assume his responsibilities on July 1, 2023.
“As SHS principal, I look forward to fostering connections that will support all students. I envision our students embracing opportunities provided by Sycamore High School that will best prepare them for the next phase in their journey,” said Swanson. “My goal is to create a supportive environment for teachers and staff. I will continue to aim to develop positive relationships with students, parents, and the Sycamore community. I am committed to serving the school community because as Spartans, we are better together.”
Swanson began his teaching career as a P.E./Health Teacher and Athletic/Activities Director for South Pekin Grade School. He then took on the role of a Special Education Teacher within Lexington Jr./Sr. High School. For six years, he served as the Assistant Principal for Belvidere High School within Belvidere Community Unit School District 100. He holds a Master of Science in Educational Administration & Foundations and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Illinois State University.
“We are excited to announce that Mr. Swanson will be the next Principal at Sycamore High School. We're especially fortunate that he's had the last year to serve in the Assistant Principal role, so the transition will be very smooth,” said Steve Wilder, Superintendent of Sycamore Community School District 427. “In addition, he brings a fresh perspective that will help us continue to move the High School, and our district, forward. Mr. Swanson has worked hard to gain experiences that have helped shape the leader he is today, and we will reap the benefit of that dedication. He is student-centered, focused on continuous improvement, very approachable, and committed to our community.”
Mr. Swanson lives in Sycamore with his wife, Ashley, who works as a physical therapist. They have two children, Elsie and Boyd, who attend Sycamore preschools. They are also expecting a third child this summer. Mr. Swanson enjoys working out, doing home projects, and attending community events with his family.
Please join us in congratulating Mr. Swanson as the new Principal of Sycamore High School.
