The Sycamore Community School District 427 Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kristen Campbell as the district’s next Superintendent. Dr. Campbell brings a student-centered leadership approach, with extensive experience driving system improvements and fostering inclusive school cultures. She will assume her responsibilities on March 1, 2026.

Dr. Campbell was selected from a talented pool of candidates after interviews with the Board of Education, district staff, parents, and community stakeholders. After careful consideration of each candidate’s credentials and the needs of the Sycamore community, she was specifically chosen to fulfill this role.

“My vision for Sycamore is to remain deeply rooted in our community–our values, relationships, and traditions–while growing forward together, guided by shared purpose, to prepare every student for what’s next,” said Dr. Campbell.

Dr. Campbell currently serves as Assistant Superintendent of High Schools for Oswego Community Unit School District 308. Since joining the district in July 2022, she has held multiple leadership roles, including Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Innovation, Executive Director of Culture and Climate and MTSS, and Director of Social Emotional Learning. In these roles, Dr. Campbell has led strategic initiatives focused on instructional excellence and student well-being.

Prior to her work at Oswego 308, Dr. Campbell built a diverse leadership background across K-12 education, higher education, and organizational development. She served as an Adjunct Professor at Trinity International University from 2019 to 2024, supporting the preparation of future educational leaders. She also worked as a Regional Client Development Coach with Humanex Ventures. Dr. Campbell previously served as a Principal with Barrington Community Unit School District 220, Associate Principal in Deerfield Public Schools District 109, and Associate Dean of Students at Niles Township High School District 219. She began her career as an English teacher in Community High School District 117, where she spent nine years in the classroom.

Dr. Campbell holds a Doctorate of Education from Concordia University Chicago. She earned two master’s degrees from Northeastern University in educational leadership and special education and completed her bachelor’s degree in secondary education with an emphasis in English at Trinity International University.

“After a thorough search process that included valuable input from our staff, parents, and community stakeholders, the Board is thrilled to welcome Dr. Campbell,” said Mr. Michael DeVito, Board President. “Her diverse leadership background and genuine commitment to student-centered decision-making make her the ideal leader to guide Sycamore Community School District 427 into the future.”

The Board of Education looks forward to partnering with Dr. Campbell as she leads the district in advancing its mission, vision, and strategic priorities in service of students, families, and the community.
