Sycamore Community School District 427 proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of two of its esteemed staff members, Katherine Katz and Susan Hughes, who were recognized at the annual Excellence in Education Awards ceremony hosted by the DeKalb County Community Foundation and DeKalb County Regional Office of Education on April 17, 2024.
The Excellence in Education Awards, aims to honor teachers, administrators, and support staff who exemplify a deep commitment to inspiring students and actively engaging in their school and community. This year's event marks the culmination of 25 years of recognizing excellence, with a total of 124 educators honored and $124,000 distributed in awards since its inception.
Katherine Katz, Art Teacher at Sycamore Middle School, was bestowed with the honor of the 6th – 8th Grade Teacher award. Her innovative approach to teaching and unwavering dedication to student success have left an indelible mark on our entire school community. She inspires a love for learning among her students and helps to create a vibrant and fun-loving culture at SMS, enriching the educational experience for all.
Susan Hughes, Secretary at Southeast Elementary School, was recognized for her invaluable contributions as Support Staff. She has shown remarkable dedication and selfless support of the students and staff at Southeast. Known for her unwavering kindness and genuine love for everyone she encounters, Mrs. Hughes has created a nurturing environment where all feel valued and supported.
The Excellence in Education Awards are made possible through the generous support of an endowed fund at the DeKalb County Community Foundation, established by the late Yvonne Johnson, a revered educator in Sycamore. The event serves as a tribute to her legacy and a testament to the profound impact educators make in the lives of students and communities.
