Sycamore CUSD 427 Sells Historic Central School Building, 245 West Exchange Street in Sycamore

During the board meeting on October 28, 2025, the Sycamore Community School District 427 Board of Education approved the sale of its former Administration Center, located at 245 W. Exchange Street, for $151,000; a $60,000 increase from the previously rejected high-bid made to the board in May 2025. This marks a significant milestone in the district’s ongoing facility planning efforts. The district also completed the sale of its District Warehouse located at 520 Maple Street earlier this year for $468,000.

These sales follow the Board of Education’s May 28, 2024, decision to purchase the former Nicor Gas Call Center at 1947 Bethany Road in Sycamore, which currently serves as the District Administration Center.

The Central School building at 245 West Exchange Street has long been a cornerstone of the Sycamore community. Constructed in 1926, it served as a school building until the 1980s before being repurposed for administrative use. For nearly a century, it has supported generations of students, educators, and district operations. The district is optimistic that the building’s next chapter will continue to serve the Sycamore community in a meaningful way, honoring its past while creating new opportunities.
