Transportation
Safely transporting students on nearly 100 different routes covering 88 square miles. That's what our Transportation Center accomplishes each school day.
The drivers, monitors, mechanics, and office staff of the Transportation Center keep our buses running and our students moving. They are committed to the safety of our students.
Bus Safety
Keeping students safe is our top priority. Our Transportation Center staff facilitate a safe ride while students are on board, but we rely on our community to keep students safe throughout their entire journey to and from school.
Passenger Policy and Regulations
To facilitate the safety of our students, regulations have been established that apply to all students riding school buses in Sycamore Community School District 427. It shall be the responsibility of the student and family to be familiar with and obey the regulations. Bus misconduct may also result in school disciplinary action.
Our bus drivers are responsible for the students riding their buses just as teachers are responsible for the students in their classrooms. Students are responsible for obeying the driver at all times. Riding a school bus is a privilege dependent on good behavior and following regulations.
Bus drivers are required to report any student who violates the regulations. Violations are reported to the student’s principal or designee who may take away the student’s privilege to ride the bus until such time as permission to ride is reinstated. Students who are suspended from riding the bus must be present in school during the period of the suspension. Failure to attend school during a period of suspension may result in referral to the county truant officer.

We live on a cul-de-sac. Will the bus come down our street?
- They create blind spots, often causing students to enter or exit in a danger zone around the bus. By stopping at a street corner curb, students enter or exit outside the danger zone.
- Our different styles and sizes of buses make maneuvering in cul-de-sacs difficult and can cause property damage to mailboxes and landscaping.
- The rear of a bus may swing around close to the sidewalk when turning.
- Parked cars and other obstacles create road hazards that may not be seen until entering the cul-de-sac, which creates a point of no return for our buses, and backing up a bus while students are on board is strictly forbidden.
