Hybrid Learning

We have developed a blended learning model which places student and staff safety as our top priority. The intent of this hybrid model is to provide students with the opportunity for in person instruction while maintaining CDC and IDPH guidelines for 6 feet of social distancing wherever possible. The A/B student attendance day schedule reduces the number of students in the building and makes it easier to apply social distancing throughout each aspect of the student’s school day. This can reduce the risk of an increase in the spread of COVID-19 to students and adults throughout the community.

Current Hybrid Learning Schedule

Our buildings will operate under the following schedules for the 2020-21 school year. Teachers will have a standard workday each day.

Elementary

Remote Learners
Students will continue to have four synchronous sessions daily in the areas of: morning meeting, reading, writing, and math. In addition, all remote students should attend a daily learning pod at the end of the day with their classroom teacher.

The expectation for remote students is that they attend all live instructional sessions. If a remote student is going to miss a live instructional session they must contact the office prior to the absence. The elementary staff will provide recorded content for all excused absences.

When we change to in-person learning four days a week, some asynchronous content will be shifted to Fridays. Remote learners will notice a change in their daily remote work activities starting on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. These changes will be communicated by each elementary building, but may include more opportunities for choice within the independent work times. Grade level teachers may work together as a team to provide services to remote learners.

In-Person Learners
Students who are designated as “in-person” will attend school Monday through Thursday. After school on these days, students will access their Google Classroom to complete their daily special. Fridays of each week will continue to be an asynchronous day, with just one morning meeting at 9:15 AM. Students should continue to take their attendance on Fridays and complete all assigned asynchronous work.

Middle and High School

In-person learners will follow their daily schedule Monday through Thursday. All instruction will be provided during the school day. Homework may be assigned to support learning activities at school.

Remote learners will be required to participate in scheduled live sessions, and complete all other work asynchronously. Middle and high school staff can be reached for questions and/or student support by calling the respective building, or by their district email address.

Additional details will be provided directly by your student’s school. Any additional questions can be directed to the main office of the school at which your student is enrolled.

Little Spartans Early Learning Program

Our Little Spartans Early Learning Program will continue to run two sections. The morning session will run from 9:00 - 11:30 AM and the afternoon session will run from 1:00 - 3:30 PM. Our Life School program will continue to run from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM.

Special Education

To address the various unique and diverse needs of our most vulnerable students in our specialized self-contained programs will have the option to attend school to the greatest extent possible. Students in our Life School Program will have the option to attend school five days a week. Students in the Little Spartans Early Learning Program will have the option to attend school four days a week on Monday-Thursday following their half day AM or PM schedule. Students that receive special education services and support in our resource program may be offered a 4 day a week option, as well as choose to participate in either the hybrid A/B schedule or remote online option. Special education and related services will be provided in-person as well as remotely. Some flexibility of scheduling may be necessary on a case by case basis to meet a child’s unique learning needs.

Special Education and Related Services, Speech, Social Work, OT, PT, Hearing & Vision, will follow the same guidelines from IDPH, CDC and ISBE to ensure the safest delivery of supports and services for your child:

  • Staff members will be provided the appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) to work with your child.
  • To the greatest extent possible, students will be required to wear face masks. Medical exceptions will require documentation from a doctor.
  • Staff members will maintain social distancing and practice appropriate hand hygiene with your child.
  • Staff members will ensure all materials used to deliver services to your child are cleaned and disinfected between uses with enough time to let the material properly dry.
