How To Observe Your Student in Canvas (App Guide)

The following instructions cover creating a Canvas Parent account in the Canvas app and adding students for observation.

Overview

1. Student generates a pairing code
2. Parent finds Sycamore School District
3. Parent creates or logs into Canvas Parent account
4. Parent enters additional pairing codes to existing account (optional)

Step One — Student generates pairing code (from Student Chromebook)

• Select "Account"
• Select "Settings"

• Select "Pair with Observer"

• Write Down Pairing Code (note expiration)

Step Two — Parent finds Sycamore School District

• Download the Canvas App from the Apple App Store or on Google Play
• Open the app and Click on "Find School"
• Type "427" into the search bar

• Select the option "Sycamore Cusd 427 (IL) - Parents

Step Three — Parent creates or logs into Canvas Parent account

• If you already have a Canvas account, enter your login and password.
• If you do not have a Canvas account, click on "Create Account"

 

• To create your Canvas account, enter the following:
  • Name
  • Email
  • Password
  • Re-enter Password
  • Enter Student Pairing Code (created at the beginning)
• Click "Start Participating"

• The dashboard of the student you are observing will now be visible

Step Four — Parent enters additional pairing codes to existing account (optional)

• Select Drop-down arrow
• Select "Add Student"
• Add additional child code
• Input pairing code (then Add)
