MIKE RICE NAMED ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT SYCAMORE HIGH SCHOOL

Last night, at its May 27, 2020, Board of Education Meeting, the Board approved Mr. Mike Rice as an Assistant Principal at Sycamore High School.

With over 15 years of work in Education, Mike began his teaching career as an English teacher in Harlem School District 122 and continued teaching at Sycamore High School from 2005-2013, where he also served as a Literacy Facilitator. He then joined Kaneland School District 302 and served as Assistant Principal for Curriculum & Instruction/Student Services and Director of Educational Services for Grades 6-12. In the fall of 2019, Mike returned to Sycamore High School as an English teacher, where he has served as a technology coach, a pilot teacher in the school’s blended learning initiative, and piloted the school’s new Learning Management System – Canvas.

“Sycamore Schools have been an important part of my life for the past fifteen years. This school district is poised to achieve incredible things in the next few years. I am incredibly excited to begin serving the District and its stakeholders in this new capacity,” said Mike Rice.

Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in English with a teaching certificate from Northern Illinois University and went on to earn a master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction from NIU and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership with his type 75 certification from the American College of Education.

SHS Principal, Mr. Tim Carlson stated, “We are excited to welcome Mr. Mike Rice to our administrative staff at Sycamore High School. Mr. Rice comes with a strong background in curriculum and has had district office experience. He will bring a unique perspective to Sycamore High School and is very well acquainted with our staff which will make for a smooth transition. I am excited for our community to have Mr. Rice as a part of our administrative staff.”

Mike replaces Nick Reineck, who was recently named Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Educational Programs for Sycamore Community School District 427.
