I hope everyone has had a great summer. First, I want to thank all of you for your help and patience in the transition of our student information system. We believe this will enable parents to have greater access to their student information. With any new transition comes growing pains, and your feedback has been appreciated.
Once the 4th of July passes, it seems the dominoes begin to roll a little faster toward the new school year. School supplies begin to show up on shelves, parents start to call and ask when school will start, and alarm clocks are dusted off. While the dominoes seem to fall slower in the summer, the pattern never completely stops. We are fortunate in Sycamore to have students, parents, and a community that keeps things rolling to benefit our kids… no matter the date on the calendar.
The slowing of the dominoes, (summer break) may mean taking some time off, but for the District, the domino pattern continues with momentum. OSCAR, the District child care program had record numbers, “My Middle School” was held for incoming 6th graders, and over 250 Sycamore High School students participated in summer classes. Our teachers continued professional development classes and held many meetings, transportation planned routes, and our awesome custodial/maintenance staff continues to work on last minute touches to have our buildings ready for the school year.
The reason the pattern continues in Sycamore can often be attributed to simple gestures that may go unnoticed but create such momentum. As I walk through our buildings and in the community, I often hear and see simple gestures that have such power: staff acknowledging a student for a job well done, staff sharing a great story with a parent, or community partners looking for ways to support the District. These simple gestures may not seem like a big deal, but their impact causes that positive domino effect that keeps Sycamore such a great place to live and work.
We look forward to seeing students on Wednesday, August 16 to see the Sycamore domino pattern continues! As a reminder, school hours are: Elementary Schools: 8:30 AM -3:00 PM, Sycamore Middle School: 8:20 AM – 3:00 PM, and Sycamore High School: 8:15 AM – 3:10 PM.
